Tuesday July 9th Visitor

At our business meting for July we will be welcoming a visitor from SYBND Cancer Alliance.  We will learn about forthcoming events and consider how we can contribute.

Tuesday July 2nd  TRIP

We are going to Cleethorpes for a day at the sea. A minibus will depart from The Olde House at 10-00am. Some members will be making their own way by car. Please contact the Secretary if you have not already indicated your wish to take part.

Victorian Christmas Weekend Matlock

On Friday November 30th we will be attending this regular event in Hall Leys Park. Meet at Cafe in the Park around 11-00am. This will be weather dependent, please make your own decision on the day.

International Head and Neck Conference 2018

On November 7th there is a conference in Nottingham, organised by The Swallows, led by Chris Curtis.
Several members of HNChelp will be attending and it will be an excellent opportunity for networking with fellow patients and carers.

Coffee Morning

We have  planned a Coffee Morning for European Head and Neck Cancer Awareness Week for Tuesday 18th September. The location is the Eyre Chapel, at the back of The Nags Head in Newbold. Doors open at 10-00am.  We will be raising funds for our group and NALC. there will be plenty of home baking for immediate consumption or to take home, a raffle and Thornton’s chocolates in return for a donation!

We will be organising a trip to the event in Matlock in Hall Leys Park. Some members will use public transport, others their own cars. Meet in the cafe in the park at 11-00am

European Head and Neck Cancer Awareness Week

On Tuesday September 19th,  10-00am to 1-00pmwe are holding a Coffee Morning at the Eyre Chapel, Newbold, Chesterfield. As well as raising funds we will be promoting awareness of early signs of cancer.

Fundraising and Awareness-raising Stall , Chesterfield Royal

We have booked the Information Point at the Royal for Monday June 26th 2017, for what has become an annual event.

Trip to National Memorial Arboretum

We have booked a minibus for Thursday May 18th 2017 to take us to Alrewas, Staffs, departing 10-00am and return by 4-00pm

A New Method of Speech for Laryngectomees

We are helping a team of researchers from Hull and Sheffield Universities who are developing an alternative method of speech for laryngectomees. They want our opinions.  This will be part of our regular April afternoon meeting on Tuesday April 11 at 2-00pm

Christmas Lunch

On Tuesday December 13th, we will be holding our annual Xmas event at The Olde House from 12-00 pm. invitations will be sent out in early November.


European Head and Neck Cancer Awareness Week

This takes place from September 19th to 23rd. We will be holding a Coffee Morning to raise funds for NALC and HNChelp and to raise awareness of early signs of these cancers. Our event will take place in the following week, on Tuesday September 27 from 9-30am to 12-00pm, at the Eyre Chapel, Newbold.

Summer Meal

We will be holding our Summer Meal on Monday June 20 at 6-30pm, at the Olde House. Members will receive details shortly, though it will be possible to just turn up on the night.

New Developments in Voice Restoration

On Monday February 15th Abi Miller, the SLT lead for Head and Neck Oncology at Chesterfield Royal, will be joining us at The Olde House at 6-00pm – please note earlier starting time.

Abi recently attended a masterclass at Birmingham University with contributions from leading world-wide clinicians. She will be sharing with us news of recent developments in the treatment of head and neck cancer, especially voice restoration.

Fundraising and Awareness-raising Stall

On Monday January 18th 2016 we will have a stall at the Information Point at Chesterfield Royal Hospital from 10-00am until 3-00pm.

As well as collecting donations for HNChelp and NALC we will be giving out leaflets describing the early signs of head and neck cancer

Christmas Lunch

We are holding our Christmas Lunch on Wednesday December 9th at The Olde House, 12-00 for 12-30pm. As well as the lunch we will be organising a quiz and a “Secret Santa” activity.

Victorian Market Weekend, Matlock

We will be organising a trip to this event, as we have done in recent years on Friday Dec 4th. We will be meeting up  in the café in Leys Hall park at 11-15am.

Meeting with Macmillan’s Co-ordinator for Derbyshire

Tuesday September 8th   1-30pm to 3-30pm

Clair Wood will be joining us from 2-00pm. The main item for discussion will be the development of a single group for all head and neck cancer patients following the closure of Heading Forward.

Lavender Coffee Morning

Tuesday May 5th  10-00pm to 12-00pm

We are organising a coffe morning at the Eyre  Chapel in Newbold. We will be raising funds for NALC and HNChelp. Following on from the (lavender-coloured) Ribbon Project last year there will be lots of lavender coloured products on sale as well as cakes baked using recipes learnt from our visit to the Yorkshire lavender Fields last year.


Tuesday April 14  2-00pm

Last November we had a very productive meeting with Healthwatch. We are meeting them again to discuss the answers received to the questions we posed in November and to raise additional points. The feedback already has shown the value of such discussions.

Mayor’s Quiz

Monday February 23  7-15pm

Once again we will be entering a team in the quiz, whilst other members spend time at our social evening in the bar area. The event raises money for charity but also gives us the chance for networking.

Wednesday December 10   12-30pm

This will be our only meeting in December. An invitation letter and menu will be sent out in October. Once again we have chosen The Olde House as the location for this event.

NALC Ribbon Project

Monday November 3rd       time to be decided

Chesterfield Royal Hospital have allowed HNChelp to have a stall in the Information Area to raise funds for NALC and HNChelp. We will be selling ribbons and giving out flyers to raise awareness of the early signs of head and neck cancer, encouraging early diagnosis.

NDVA Speaker

Tuesday September 9th  Business Meeting

We will have a guest speaker at this meeting from North Derbyshire Voluntary Action.  NDVA provides a link between the voluntary sector and the NHS and the exchange of views can only helpful to our members.
