The AGM of the National Association of Laryngectomee Clubs was held on May 18th.
HNChelp Secretary, Malcolm Babb, was elected as NALC President for a third year. In his report to the meeting, Malcolm said that the funds raised in 2014, along with savings made, had been sufficient to allow NALC to maintain its full range of services, despite the cut in funding from Macmillan Cancer Support. The challenge for 2015 will be much harder to reach however, if this situation is to be continued.
Sadly, one of NALC’s stalwart volunteers, Vice-President Andy Gage, has passed away leaving a big gap to fill. He met members of HNChelp at the Annual Lunch in Harrogate last autumn and will be missed greatly.
Our fundraising efforts were continued with a coffee morning held at the Eyre Chapel, in Newbold, Chesterfield. As well as being a building of fascinating historical interest it commands tremendous views over the Derbyshire hills.
Following on from last year’s Ribbon Project, there was a lavender theme – both in the cakes and scones on offer and in a variety of knitted and craft products for sale. Once again Marjorie Thorne put in much hard work beforehand to make the event a success and there was an excellent turnout of members to help on the day.
A steady stream of visitors turned up, despite the morning starting wet and windy. The event raised over £300 which will be shared between HNChelp and NALC.
